On the ball!

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Eric is always mimicking anything that Mommy and I do.  This we expected.  Some times we regret saying or doing something when he copies us, and other times he is just so darn cute!  This time is one of the latter.

It was during the days after Christmas while I was off work.  We were painting the master bedroom and replacing the closet fixtures.  The floor of the office was piled with stuff that had been moved out of the bedroom and removed from the closets.  As a result, I was unable to get my desk chair over in front of my desk, so I sat on Mommy’s exercise ball.  Eric thought this was funny.  He often played on it with Mommy or I holding him up while we bounced him on the ball.

Eric of course tried to copy this by sitting on his ball.  He was not quite tall enough to straddle it completely, and he was not successful.  Oh well.  He really likes sitting in my lap while I sit at the computer.  I usually bounce a little while he sits.

Recently, he has finally been able to sit on his ball.  Today, I captured him on film sitting on his ball and reading a book.

I also have a couple new videos on his website.

Where there’s smoke…

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I came home from work today to the sound of a smoke alarm.  Mommy was toasting some bread for dinner and set off the alarm.  Not to fear, though.  Eric was saving the day!  When I approached the front door, I could here something beeping.  I picked up the trash on the front porch and carried it to the driveway before going into the house.  As I came in the door, the beeping had stopped.  I looked toward the kitchen and saw Eric frantically waving a towel toward the ceiling.  He was helping Mommy to keep the smoke alarm quiet.  You can see a video of Eric’s bravery on his website.

Of course, there was never any danger.  Mommy had already returned to preparing dinner.

My Valentine!

I added another photo to the Snow posting from last weekend.

Here is a photo of Eric with his new pajamas.  I ordered pajamas for Mommy and Eric for Valentine’s Day.  Eric’s came with a little stuffed dog and a cardboard dog house.  Mommy’s came with her name embroidered.

Yes, those are penguins!

Ma and Pa Deakin sent Eric a snoopy doll that makes kissing sounds and gives hugs.  Eric was very excited when I brought in the mail today.  He couldn’t wait to open the box.  He carried the box to the middle of the living room and set it down.  Then he went over to the table and started to open the drawer saying “knife”.  He knows that Mommy keeps the scissors in the drawer for cutting coupons.  I got my pocket knife and opened the box.  Eric was very excited and could hardly wait while I cut the box open.  we found the card on top, opened it and read it.  Eric liked it.  He did not even look in the box for anything more.  I managed to get his attention back to the box and pulled out the snoopy doll.

Eric received cards and gifts.  He was really surprised by all of them!  Happy Valentines and thank you to everyone!

Let it snow, let it snow…

S N O W ! ! !

We got at least 8 inches of snow yesterday and overnight.  Some of the drifts are well over 2 feet high.

After breakfast this morning, I went out to clear the driveway.  When I finshed clearing the driveway, I came inside to get Eric.  Mommy and I got him dressed up to play in the snow…layers…snug-fitting pajamas, sweatshirt, snow pants, hat, coat, and boots.

I bought a sled for Eric just after Christmas.  It is a little small for his long legs, but it has a strap so that he cannot fall out.  He was a little unsure of the snow when we first went out.  Obviously, this is not the first time he has seen snow, but this is a lot of snow!  I walked out into the yard, and he of course wanted to follow.  I picked him up and set him down in the snow.  He looked around, tried to move his feet, and promptly asked to be “up!”  He was simply unable to pick his feet up to walk through the snow, which was up well past his knees.

I picked him up and set him onto his sled, secured the strap around his waist, and away we went.  I pulled him around the front yard, sometimes walking, and sometimes running.  He was enjoying all of it!  Mommy came outside to take some pictures.  I pulled Eric around the north side of the house, through the back yard, and around the south side of the house to the front yard on the other side of the driveway.  the snow was drifted very high on the south side of the house.  It was not an easy walk, let alone pulling Eric, too.  I was tired, and Eric was outside long enough.  (Eric is just getting over an infection in both ears, so Mommy and I did not want him outside too long.)
