Happy Birthday to Me!

September 2012:

Last month started off with my birthday.  Aunt Cindy and I always celebrate our birthday over Labor Day weekend.  This year, she came to visit us.  We went to see a concert Saturday, while Eric spent the night at Grandma G’s house.  Sunday was a fun day!  Eric loved having Aunt Cindy and Uncle Rob to visit and play with.  Aunt Cindy, Uncle Rob, Eric, and I all went to duck pin bowling on Sunday afternoon.  Mommy stayed home, since she was not feeling well.  We had a blast!  Eric loves duck pin bowling.  After we bowled a couple games, we went across the hall to the arcade, where we played some games and won tickets to redeem for prizes.  Eric cleaned up on tickets!  He brought home a miniature skateboard, and a jumbo clear die.

The following week, I took Eric to “Sweet Tooth Tuesday” at Carmel City Center.  The small event included free cookies, cupcakes, temporary tattoos, and two antique fire trucks for the kids to climb on.  Eric was for some reason convinced that there would be games to play when we got there.  We parked a block away and walked to the City Center.  The entire walk over, Eric kept asking about the games.  I told him that I didn’t think there would be anygames, but we would get to see some really cool old fire trucks.  This did not convince him.  When we got there, we were the first to arrive.  We walked by the fire trucks, but Eric was not very interested.  He was still looking for the games.  We walked over to the tattoo lady, and she painted a very nice train engine on Eric’s arm.  He had to keep his sleeve rolled up until it dried.  Next we walked over to the cupcakes, and we got a cupcake and some juice for Eric.  Eric insisted that we sit, so he could eat his cupcake from a plate.  Since we did not have any plates, he settled for a napkin resting on my lap.  Upon finishing the cupcake, Eric and I went in search of the games, even though I knew that we had already seen everything.  We walked into a couple stores and walked over to see the cool fountain at the City Center.  When we walked back toward the fire trucks, we spotted Eric’s friend, Blake.  By this time, there were many children running and playing around the area.  Eric did not hesitate to run into the mix and start playing with Blake.  They climbed all over the trucks, in the driver’s and passenger’s seats and in the back playing with the fire hoses.  It was a fun afternoon!

The next weekend, on September 16, Eric, Mommy, and I went to Conner Prairie for the STEAM Innovation Fair.  This was a large event with tons of displays and activities to keep the kids and parents entertained for hours.  We saw some really cool steam engines and tractors.  We saw robots playing basketball.  Eric had a turn at controlling one of these with another little boy.  They scored a basket!  Eric played with giant tinker toys.  Eric milked a cow.  It was a fake cow, but it really gave milk!  At one booth, Eric spun a wheel and answered a trivia question to win a prize.  The question: “What color is the planet Mars?”  Eric answered, without hesitation, “Red!”.  Mommy and I were very impressed and proud!  We had no idea that he knew this.  Eric and I went on a hat ride in the back of a 1919 Ford 1-ton pickup truck.  It was a very bumpy ride through the corn field, but we had fun.  Mommy stayed away from the hay because of her allergies.  Eric rode a pony!  We all rode on a bicycle built for six!  Eric walked on stilts and balance on a tight rope (not at the same time).  We could’ve spent several more hours to see and do everything that was there, but they wer closing, so we had to go home.  We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to next year!

The robots were designed and built by high school students.

The students helped the kids move the robot.

They took turns at the different controls.

This is the robot that he controlled.

Eric got to help one of the high school students work on the robot.

This truck is over 90 years old, and it is beautifully restored!

Here are some other things that we did during September…

Eric rides the penny horse at Meijer.

Eric tries the tie that we rented for Michelle’s wedding.  It fits!

My next blog entry will include Eric’s adventures over the weekend for his cousin Michelle’s wedding in Michigan.
